Guide to creating a 2nd installation of TANE & TRS19
Posted by N3V Games (Paul) on 12 November 2015 11:09 AM

It is possible for multiple versions of Trainz A New Era and Trainz Railroad Simulator 2019 to co-exist on one machine. However there are some rules to follow to ensure smooth operation.

Please note also that this advice is provided as a guide only. We are not responsible for any lost data that may occur as a result of following this guide.

COPYING YOUR CURRENT INSTALLATION:

  1. Create a new folder for your copy of TANE. e.g. D:/TANE-Beta
  2. Copy all the files from your current install folder to the new location (this includes the Resources folder, the .dll files and TANE.exe and TrainzUtil.exe)
  3. Do NOT copy your local data folder (we will import your local data later)
  4. Start Trainz and you will be prompted to enter your username
  5. A new local data folder will be created at C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\N3V Games\TANE\build xxxxxxxx
  6. Note that this process takes 5-10 minutes

If you want to move local content into the new build, then follow this guide or this guide for importing from TS12.

NOTE: We do not recommend you manually move files using Windows Explorer.

NEVER move or delete the override file from C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\N3V Games\TANE\

For TRS19, replace any reference to 'TANE' or 'TANE.exe' with 'TRS19' or 'TRS19.exe' respectively.

Note that if you have a Gold Membership or a Trainz Plus membership, then it is not permissible to run multiple copies of Trainz versions obtained through your membership simultaneously (they can be installed multiple times, just not multiple installations run simultaneously).
