Install the game as per normal (e.g. game is in D:\TANE_game\Build_A and Local Data Folder path is C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\N3V Games\TANE\build xxxxxxxx

Copy everything from D:\TANE_game\Build_A into D:\TANE_game\Build_B

Click on Tane.exe in D:\TANE_game\Build_B and the launcher will appear

Add your username to Settings > Internet

Click Start Trainz and a new Local Data Folder will be created in C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\N3V Games\TANE\build xxxxxxxx

You can the follow the steps in the Move Folder article if you don't want your Local Data Folder on C:\

For TRS19, replace any reference to 'TANE' or 'TANE.exe' with 'TRS19' or 'TRS19.exe' respectively.

Note that if you have a Gold Membership or a Trainz Plus membership, then it is not permissible to run multiple copies of Trainz versions obtained through your membership simultaneously (they can be installed multiple times, just not multiple installations run simultaneously).

There are no differences in features between Steam and MyTrainz editions of Trainz; each will include all of the same features and functions for that version. There are, however, some differences for the Steam editions in regards to DLC packs, registration, and updating.

DLC packs

DLC packs purchased through Steam can only be used with the Steam editions of Trainz.

DLC packs purchased through the Trainz Store can be used with any compatible version of Trainz, including Steam versions.

Registration

Registration of the Steam editions is achieved by simply entering your MyTrainz account's username and password into the Internet tab of the Trainz Settings, which you can do by following these steps:

Double click on your Trainz icon

Click on Trainz Settings

Click on the Internet tab

Enter your username and password into the boxes provided (please keep in mind that your username and password are case sensitive), then press enter.

Now try starting Trainz.

When you start Trainz, Trainz will then register itself into your account.

Please note, you will not see any changes in your MyTrainz account's details after registering. The Steam edition of Trainz does not provide access to the digital download through MyTrainz.

Updates/Patches

For updates and patches, these will be installed automatically through Steam.

Troubleshooting:

Do not run two installations from the disc at the same time. If you wish to install a second copy of Trainz, please run the installer again after the first installation has completed.

Double clicking on your DVD drive will not the begin the installation, you will need to double click on the setup file within the DVD drive folder to begin the installation.

If you do see issues with installing from the disc, then please try copying the files from each disc to your hard drive. You must place all files from each disc into the same folder for the installer to work correctly from your hard drive.

Ensure that you have enough disc space on your hard drive to install Trainz. You will need enough space for the installer to 'unpack' to the hard drive, and for Trainz to be installed (minimum requirement of 50GB Free Space). Please note, the installer will use C:\ drive to unpack to, even if you select another drive to install Trainz to.

If there is not enough space available, then you will likely see the following error:

Disk full message error shows as "resumable timeout lock"
; <NULL> install-package "G:\UK Content Disk 1"
; <NULL> TrainzLockNativeFileSystem> resumable lock timeout: c:/users/james/appdata/local/n3v games/trs19/build e0eb53qu1/packages/sc484d.tzarc
- <NULL> Unable to read package: sc484d
- <NULL> Installation of the content package 'sc484d' failed.
- <NULL> TADCopy> Unable to copy file g:/uk content disk 1/sc484f.tzarc to C:/Users/James/AppData/Local/N3V Games/trs19/build e0eb53qu1/packages/sc484f.tzarc (err 0x00000070)
- <NULL> Installation of the content package 'sc484f' failed due to immovable existing data.

Australian orders generally take 3-5 days.

All International orders are shipped using Australia Post who do not offer tracking for International Airmail. Packages generally arrive in the destination country within a few days and are then under the control of your local Customs Clearance and Post Office services.

While the estimated time is 7-15 days for USA and most of Europe, deliveries sometimes take longer. (Up to 7 weeks in very rare cases).

Please note that FedEx and other parcel services quote over $65 for a parcel from Australia to USA or Europe so we are currently limited to the non-tracked Australia Post option.

If you already own a digital download edition of Trainz Railroad Simulator 2019, you can upgrade to a boxed edition by placing an order for the Shipping Only - Trainz Railroad Simulator 2019 item in our store.

Yes. We have tested Trainz Railroad Simulator 2019, Trainz: A New Era, and Trainz Simulator 12, with Windows 10 and found it performs better than using previous Windows Editions.

If you do see issues with running Trainz on Windows 10, then please ensure that Trainz has full permissions on your computer, including through any security programs, by doing the following:

Go into Window Explorer (or My Computer), and navigate to the Trainz folder, and right click on the 'TANE.exe' file, and click on 'properties', and then click on the tab called 'Compatibility'. Now set the Privilege Level to "Run this program as an administrator", then click on 'apply', then on 'Ok'.

Please also ensure that you have given Trainz full access in your firewall and anti-virus. Please try adding the 'TANE.exe' file as an exception in your firewall and anti-virus.

Please also ensure that your computer meets the system requirements for Trainz: A New Era in this article.

All Downloadable Content (DLC) for Trainz is downloaded and installed seamlessly in-game. There are no downloads required from the Trainz store or serial numbers required.

You must log into the Trainz store when purchasing a DLC pack using the same username as used within Trainz, otherwise Trainz will not be able to access the download.

If your loco doesn't have a session already created in Kickstarter County or one of the other built-in routes, you will need to create your own session to use the loco. Follow these simple steps:

USING CREATE SESSION:

Choose your favorite route

Click View Sessions

Select Create Session

Click on the Content Search Filter (top left of the menu bar)

Type in a keyword like blue" for Blue Comet

Click on the Trains tab - only items with "blue" are now showing

Select your loco and place on the track

Add other locos and rules if required (see the manual for more detail)

Click Quickdrive (top left of the menu bar) to begin your session.

USING QUICKDRIVE: (if a consist is included for your loco)

Choose your favorite route

Click View Sessions

Select Quickdrive > Drive Session

Click on the New Train menu option in the Quickdrive Window

Scroll through the list to find your loco and select it

Click on the track to place the consist (ensure you have sufficient track length)

You are now ready to drive.

HINT: Most content will have the operator's name, or a shortened version of the operator's name, in the name of the traincars. For example, for the Blue Comet (operated by the Central Railroad of New Jersey), the start of the name has 'CNJ'.

To find out your system specification, you need to run a program called dxdiag

Click on the Windows Start Menu, type in dxdiag and click on dxdiag under the Programs heading.

The diagnostic tool appears in a new window and may take a minute or so to run the diagnostic tests.

The System Tab shows your Operating System, Processor (CPU), and whether DX11 is installed.

Next, click on the Display Tab to find your Graphics Card

PLEASE NOTE: It is possible to have DX11 installed, but not have a graphics card that supports DX11 features.

To find if your graphics card supports DX11, we suggest you type the name of your card into Google Search and add "+DX11" then review the articles that appear e.g. GeForce GT 630 +DX11

For some graphics cards, the version that your graphics card supports may be shown in the 'display' tab in DXDiag in the 'DDI Version' section on the right. If this shows 10, 10.0, or 10.1 then it indicates that your graphics card only supports up to DirectX 10. If this shows 11 or higher, then your graphics card may support DirectX 11.

User content is stored by default at C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\N3V Games\TANE (for TRS19, this will be C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\N3V Games\trs19\ ). This folder may grow to a substantial size over time. If required, you may specify an alternate location for storing your content:

These instructions apply to build 82340 and above for Windows.

MOVING YOUR DEFAULT LOCATION:

Note the current location of your user content by opening the Launcher > Trainz Settings > Install tab

Open Windows Explorer and create a new empty folder at the desired location (e.g. D:\TANE_Content)

In the Install tab, click on the "..." button and browse to find your newly created folder

Click Select Folder to change the path to your new location

Exit the game and close all game windows

In Windows Explorer, move your existing content into the new folder (see below*)

Start TANE and check the Install tab to confirm that the path has changed and is correct and that everything is working.

If your content is missing, or if a database repair commences, you have made a mistake and will need to re-check the setting above.

* Move all the files and folders from your original Local Data Folder (from Step 1 above) into your NEW folder created in Step 2
i.e. folders like backup, cache, etc plus assets.tdx and keystore.tdx.
This should leave the old content folder empty, and all of your content files under the new folder. You can then delete the old empty folder.

NOTE:

DO NOT ever delete the C:\Users\<pc name>\AppData\Local\N3V Games\TANE folder (or C:\Users\<pc name>\AppData\Local\N3V Games\trs19 for TRS19) OR the userdata-redirect-map.txt file in that folder. This file is required by TANE/TRS19 to ensure the Local Data Folder is found. If the redirect file does not exist, TANE/TRS19 will create a new one and create a new local data folder in the default location and you are back to your starting point.

If a new unused /build xxxxxxxx folder is created in the default location upon restarting, you have not followed the steps correctly - please review the steps again.

If you are asked to enter your username again, you have not followed the steps correctly - please review the steps again.

CREATING A NEW LOCAL DATA FOLDER

Sometimes your Local Data Folder can end up with corrupt data. In this case, the solution is to create a new folder which contains no 3rd party content. From there, you can then IMPORT your old content and work out which items may be causing issues.

Open the Launcher > Install tab and check the path to your Local Data Folder. The default path is C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\N3V Games\TANE\build xxxxxxxx

Highlight the full path name and use Ctrl-C to copy

Close TANE (and check in Task Manager that it has ended - this may take a few minutes in some circumstances)

Use Crtl-V to paste the path into Windows Explorer

Go up one directory level and rename the folder by adding "-old" to the name (this effectively creates a backup for you)

Open a NEW Windows Explorer window and create a Folder in the desired location (e.g. D:\TANE_data)

Open Launcher > Trainz Settings > Install tab and browse to find your new folder (D:\TANE_data) then click Select Folder

Close TANE (a message will appear saying the game needs a restart)

Restart TANE and check your Install path is pointing to the new location.

Click Start Trainz and wait for TANE to complete a database rebuild (this should only take a few minutes)

Now your TANE install points to the new Local Data Folder at the new location.

NOTE: This process does not copy and of your local content across. To do that, follow this Importing Content guide (which will require that you create the Editing Folder prior to Step 1 above)

The instructions below apply to build 82340 and above for Mac.

MOVING YOUR DEFAULT LOCATION:

1) You will need to locate your LocalData folder. You can find the path to your LocalData folder in Launcher > Trainz Settings > Install.
2) Shut down Trainz
3) Navigate in Finder to the location shown in the install tab of the Trainz Settings
4) Now copy the “build xxxxxxxx” folder (i.e. the folder that your install path was pointing to) to the new location you would like it in.
5) Open the Trainz launcher screen, and then click on 'Trainz Settings'
6) Click on the 'Install' tab, then browse to the new location of your LocalData folder, then select the 'build xxxxxxxx' folder (or equivalent if you have renamed the folder) and then click on 'open' or equivalent
7) Completely close Trainz, then reopen Trainz and see if the changes have taken affect and your content is showing in-game.

CREATING A NEW LOCAL DATA FOLDER

Sometimes your Local Data Folder can end up with corrupt data. In this case, the solution is to create a new folder which contains no 3rd party content. From there, you can then IMPORT your old content and work out which items may be causing issues.

Paste the path into Finder

Go up one directory level and rename the folder by adding "-old" to the name (this effectively creates a backup for you)

Open a NEW Finder window and create a Folder in the desired location

Open Launcher > Trainz Settings > Install tab and click the button marked '...' to browse to find your new folder, then click Select Folder or equivalent

Close TANE (a message will appear saying the game needs a restart)

Restart TANE and check your Install path is pointing to the new location. You will also need to enter your MyTrainz username and password into the 'MyTrainz' or 'Internet' tab.

Click Start Trainz and wait for TANE to complete a database rebuild (this should only take a few minutes)

Now your TANE install points to the new Local Data Folder at the new location.

It is possible for multiple versions of Trainz A New Era and Trainz Railroad Simulator 2019 to co-exist on one machine. However there are some rules to follow to ensure smooth operation.

Please note also that this advice is provided as a guide only. We are not responsible for any lost data that may occur as a result of following this guide.

COPYING YOUR CURRENT INSTALLATION:

Create a new folder for your copy of TANE. e.g. D:/TANE-Beta

Copy all the files from your current install folder to the new location (this includes the Resources folder, the .dll files and TANE.exe and TrainzUtil.exe)

Do NOT copy your local data folder (we will import your local data later)

Start Trainz and you will be prompted to enter your username

A new local data folder will be created at C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\N3V Games\TANE\build xxxxxxxx

Note that this process takes 5-10 minutes

If you want to move local content into the new build, then follow this guide or this guide for importing from TS12.

NOTE: We do not recommend you manually move files using Windows Explorer.

NEVER move or delete the override file from C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\N3V Games\TANE\

For Trainz Railroad Simulator 2019, the main installer installs the 'core' installation of Trainz. This is the same version as the Digital version.

The remaining content is install installed separately, either by downloading in-game or by following the guide below for Boxed versions.

For information on installing Trainz Railroad Simulator 2019 itself, please see Installing the boxed edition of TRS19.

Installing Content from Disk or USB

Install TRS19, and ensure that you have entered your MyTrainz username and password into the Trainz Settings

Click File > Install Purchased Items from Disk (Explorer or 'Open' will open)

Navigate to your DVD or USB Drive.

Select the appropriate Folder in the Explorer/Open window (e.g. North America Edition)

Click "Select Folder".

The installation process will commence.

Once installed, it will show as "Complete".

If you have purchased the UK Edition, ensure you install the content from both Disk 1 & 2.

If you have purchased the full edition, install the EU, NA and UK editions.

Congratulations, your content is now installed. You are ready to click Start Trainz and enjoy the new content.

NOTE: Your disk or USB may include additional content you have not yet purchased. You can purchase the items from the store to authorise the additional content.

Troubleshooting

You must have your MyTrainz account's username and password entered in the Trainz Settings to install content from the disc.

If your version of Trainz does not have the "Install purchased items from disk" option, then you need a more up to date version of Trainz.
This option is currently available for TRS19 Build 100240 or higher.

"Unknown/invalid package format" - Ensure you select the correct folder on your DVD. This process only works for .tzarc files made specifically for installation from disk. It will not work for other file types such as .cdp files.

"No items match your search" - Ensure you select the Folder (which may appear empty if you try to open it in Windows)

"Unable to copy data" - check your harddrive is not full.

"Unable to communicate with DRM Server" - You must be online to authorise your installation of this content. Please check your internet connection.

Tags: Regional edition, installing content, European, United Kingdom, North America, EU, UK, NA, edition

If one of your routes, sessions, or even a downloaded asset has disappeared, then it's likely that it has been removed due to a conflict with another asset, or your database has become corrupt or damaged.

Trainz will move this item to the 'backups' folder in your AppData folder. To access this folder, find the path in Launcher > Trainz Settings > Install (e.g. C:/Users/%username%/AppData/Local/N3V Games/TANE/build xxxxxxxx)

Open Windows Explorer, and navigate to your 'backups' folder which will contain several more folders depending on your settings.

Look for the date that is closest to the date you think the asset was deleted. If the asset is listed, then you may be able to import this into Trainz, by dragging and dropping the asset's folder into Content Manager. You can also use the 'import content folder' option, found in the 'file' menu in Content Manager, to import the asset.

If you are unable to find the asset in the backups folder, then there is no way to retrieve the asset other than by going to the original source where you first located the item.

We recommend that you create regular backups of assets that you create. This can be done by going into Content Manager and locating the asset you wish to backup. When located, select the asset and right click on it, then click on 'export to cdp'.

Now choose a folder to save to, give the file a name, and then click on save. This will then save a 'cdp' file, which will contain the asset(s) that you selected. You can re-install the asset using the 'import cdp' tool in Content Manager, found under the 'file' menu.

Sometimes your database may become corrupted and affects built-in or DLC content.

Generally, a standard Database Rebuild from Launcher > Developer > Rebuild Database will rectify the situation.

To run an Extended Database Repair:

On the launcher, click on the 'developer' option at the top of the screen

Hold down the CTRL key

Left click on Rebuild database

Some versions of Trainz may not detect the CTRL key being held down. In this case you can manually start an extended database rebuild by following these steps:

Click on 'Trainz Settings' on the launcher screen

Go to the tab marked 'Dev' (not the one on the top menu)

Click on 'Enable Advanced Debug Tools'

Close all TRSxxx windows

Start TRSxxx.exe again

Click on 'Developer' at the top of the Launcher (not the one in Trainz Settings)

Click on 'Run TrainzUtil Command'

Type in 'repairdatabase extended' (without the quotes)

Click 'ok'

This will perform a full rebuild of the database repair and will force the DLC packages to be reinstalled fully (or other database corruption to be repaired).

T:ANE and TRS19 provide two ways to import content. Other methods may work to some degree but are not supported. This article is a guide to what will and won’t work when moving content around between Trainz versions.

Supported Content Install Methods:

Downloading from the Trainz Download Stations using Content Manager (First Class Ticket recommended)

Downloading DLC (payware) items using the in-game downloader

Importing Content Files (CDPs) using Content Manager

Importing Content Folders (Open for Edit Folders) using Content Manager (See below for more details)

Not Supported:

Built-in content cannot be moved from the install location (instead, download these items from the DLS)

Using Windows to move Local, Original and Packages data folders between builds and then using "Rebuild Database" to force update the content. This is known to cause errors.

Note that almost all "pre-Trainz A New Era" content can be imported into TANE. There will be some items that require fixing in TANE due to changed validation conditions.

The exception to using Windows to move your content is when you are changing the Local Data Folder path from one location to another. In this case your build number has not changed and so the contents and database will operate correctly.

IMPORTING FOLDERS

To import a Folder into TANE from another Trainz installation, you must ensure the item is "Open for Edit". This is done using Content Manager.

In the "older" version of Trainz, open Content Manager

Create a "filter" using the 'search' panel on the left side of the screen to view the items you wish to import. For example, adding a filter "Installed = True" and "Builtin = False" would provide all your non-builtin content.

R-click and choose Open for Edit. This process creates a new Folder for each asset in the Editing folder

To find the Windows path to this folder, on the Launcher click Trainz Settings > Import tab.

Close this version of Trainz

Open the new version of Trainz (where you want to import the content to)

Open Content Manager

Click File > Import Content Folder

Navigate to the Editing folder path you found in Step 4

Ensure the path at the top shows as something like C:\Users\<pcname>\AppData\Local\N3V Games\TANE\build nju354pt1\editing, and "editing" shows as the Folder name in the box at the bottom

Click Select

The "installing" window will now appear and the items will then be imported into your new Trainz installation.

NOTE: You cannot use this method to import BUILTIN content from TS12 or TANE. You must use the Download Station to download any builtin TS12 assets, or use the in-game download option for TANE content.

Additional help: http://online.ts2009.com/mediaWiki/index.php/Help:Importing_Content

TRS19 and T:ANE have been designed to be backwards compatible with the majority of content from previous versions of Trainz so it is possible to import your content from TS12 (or previous versions) into your new version of Trainz

It is important to know that both TRS19 and T:ANE require the original textures to show correctly in-game, and therefore built-in content, which does not contain source files, cannot be imported directly (or it will show with errors).

We are currently in the process of uploading built-in content from previous versions of Trainz to the Download Station which will provide access to that content.

Here is our recommended approach for importing a route and it’s dependencies from your older build:

In Content Manager, select the group of files you want to import excluding the built-in assets (if you are unsure how to do this, see this article for the process to select all the non-built dependencies)

In Content Manager, use Ctrl-A to select the full list of assets, then Ctrl-E to open the items for edit.

Navigate to your Userdata > Editing folder (default is: C:\Program Files (x86)\N3V Games\Trainz Simulator 12\UserData\editing for TS12 and C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\N3V Games\TANE\build xxxxxxx for TANE)

Launch T:ANE, click on “Manage Content” then drag the folders from the above Editing folder into the T:ANE Content Manager window.

To ensure you don’t overwrite newer versions of files, in T:ANE Content Manager, filter on Date Installed = Today, then r-click “Open-for-edit” and r-click “Revert Unsubmitted Changes”

You now have the new route, and all the non-builtin items in T:ANE, so next we need to get the builtin items from the DLS

In T:ANE Content Manager, select the Route that you imported and R-Click > Download. This will check the DLS for further missing Dependencies and download those items and their dependencies.

Don’t forget to go back into your old build and Revert the content you had Open for Edit

Following this process, you do NOT need to run a database repair as T:ANE already knows about the assets when you imported them. (See this article about moving “packages” which DOES require a db rebuild)

Also, do NOT attempt to bring your older build assets over into T:ANE by simply copying your Local folder (you can import the entire folder by dragging and dropping it onto Content Manager but using the steps above is more robust).

Please note that the following items cannot be imported into T:ANE directly:

Trainz built-in content (but this can be downloaded from DLS)

.ja files

.tzarc files

This error means your system is not able to communicate to the MyTrainz server.

The most likely reason is you have the "Disable Online Features" option selected (if you are using the Deluxe Box edition/"DRM Free" version of TANE).

Uncheck this option in Trainz Launcher > Trainz Settings > Internet

This error could also be an Internet connectivity issue (at either end or somewhere in between your computer and our server) so please check your connection and try again later.

If you have another network (such as a mobile phone hotspot connection) you can try using a different network to see if that resolves the issue.

Please also ensure that you have given Trainz full internet access, you can do this by trying the following.

Sometimes your TANE installation can become corrupted. This generally happens when content is moved manually rather than using the in-built Import tools, but can also happen during patching or after a game crash.

NOTE: A new installation (including newly downloaded DLC) should never have any Missing Dependencies if correctly installed. It is more likely the install is not complete.

NEW INSTALLATION

Please follow the steps below to rectify missing dependencies with a new install or after patching:

Shutdown TANE (Do not force quit as this process can take 5 minutes or longer in some cases - check it has shut down completely by checking Task Manager)

Restart TANE - a database repair may occur and the problem may be resolved

If a database repair does not run automatically, manually do a database repair by clicking the Developer Menu on the Launcher menu, then Rebuild Database

Restart TANE

If the issue still exists, then you will need to create a new local data folder by following this guide.

If these steps fail, the next step is to reinstall TANE from your DVD/USB or if you have the digital version, in most cases, the latest version of TANE available can be found by logging in to your MyTrainz account.

NEW DLC

Please follow the steps below to rectify missing dependencies with newly downloaded DLC items:

Open the TANE Launcher then go to Trainz Settings > Install Tab

Highlight the Local Data Folder path name (e.g. C:\Users\<pcname>\AppData\Local\N3V Games\TANE\build 7uiv95001) then use Ctrl-C to copy the path to your clipboard

If you have made any changes in the session that affect the route itself (ie some environment settings, terrain changes, or changes to existing route objects), then you will need to save the route again in addition to the session. If you do not wish to save the route, then you must ensure that you are careful not to make changes to route objects, or route specific functions.

If you are creating a session for a route that was created with Trainz: A New Era or earlier, then the route will need to be re-saved in TRS19 (this will update the route to the TRS19 route format) before the session can be saved, as TRS19 sessions will require the route to be in the TRS19 route format.

If you are seeing the 'Starting Trainz' window appear either momentarily (i.e. disappears, then nothing happens), or for a very long time (i.e. more than about 20 minutes) after clicking on Start Trainz, then please ensure that your computer does meet the system requirements for Trainz.

You can find your system's specifications by following the information in this article.

You can find the system requirements for Trainz Railroad Simulator 2019 in this article.

If your computer does meet the system requirements, then please ensure that the drivers for your computer's hardware are fully up to date, especially the video card drivers. You can obtain the latest drivers for your video card from the manufacturer's website (i.e. NVidia, AMD, etc).

Also ensure that Trainz has full permissions on your computer, including through any security programs, by doing the following:

Go into Window Explorer (or My Computer), and navigate to the Trainz folder, and right click on the 'TRS19.exe' file, and click on 'properties', and then click on the tab called 'Compatibility'. Now set the Privilege Level to "Run this program as an administrator", then click on 'apply', then on 'Ok'.

Please also ensure that you have given Trainz full access in your firewall and anti-virus. Please try adding the 'TRS19.exe' file as an exception in your firewall and anti-virus.

There is currently a known issue with the Steam edition of TRS19 which will cause the error message "Package installation failed to provide any of the expected packages for resource 'steam:(ID number)'." to occur. This is being looked into by the Trainz team, however to work around this currently, please follow these steps:

1) Locate the DLC pack in the Content Store
2) Click on 'Install' if it has not been installed
3) When you see 'View Error', click on 'View Error' then click on 'Cancel'
4) The DLC pack will show the 'install' button again, you can ignore this at this point.
5) Now start Trainz, or Content Manager, and see if the content in the DLC pack is installed. Note, using the 'list featured assets' option on some older DLC packs may show older versions of the assets which may not currently be installed.
